很多老外警告我們，假期間的牛津城就像龐貝城，死城….因為大家都逃離英國鳥天氣，回鄉過節或者到亞洲以及大洋洲去潛水，之前聽起來亂可怕的，不過事實上，牛津當地的人不少，很多亞洲學生也都留在學校內，所以根本就沒有老外講的恐怖。不過這個長假，交通系統倒是癱瘓了，公車以及鐵路班次銳減，所以沒有轎車代步實在是很難規畫長途旅行。

平安夜當天，我到了Templeton College 與中國同學一起做菜聚會，學院的Common Room(交誼室)是座落在一大片樹林當中，像是溪頭的小屋，有很多小松鼠,小鹿還有很多不隻名的小鳥 會在外頭跑來跑去，格外可愛。入冬的坦伯頓學院，光禿禿的樹林沒有葉子的包覆，但還是有一種相當冷靜的感覺。
大家做了相當道地的家鄉菜 ，我們聽著家鄉的歌曲，打撞球,打桌球，一起聊天，格外溫馨。平安夜當天的溫度大概接近零度左右，不過我們的心裡暖呼呼的，因為講著國語，吃著台菜，心情總是覺得格外的舒暢。約到了十點半鐘，我們決定一同從學院走道牛津市中心的St Mary the Virgin Church 去參加最後一場平安夜的教堂詩歌…

步行在Templeton College 學院的小徑中，抬頭仰望天空，這才赫然發現到清澈無雲的天空裡，星星又多又亮，我真的是看呆了，這時的我真的可以體會到”星星是窮人的鑽石& 守護神”.這幾句話的意境……. 聚會中唯一的一位日本同學Wateru (我都叫他做滑鐵盧)用英文流利的告訴我，如何利用北斗七星找到北極星，俗稱的北斗七星在中國古代稱為帝車，美國稱之為大杓子(Great dipper)，在英國叫做犁或查理的馬車(Charles’s Wain)，愛爾蘭、丹麥視之為王車，而希臘人將北斗七星與附近諸星併合稱為大熊星座(Ursa Major)，杓柄三顆星視為大熊的尾巴，杓斗四顆星為大熊腰部，旁邊的小星星則為熊的頭部和四肢。星空裡，Wateru 相當輕鬆的從閃閃發亮的星星裡看到了北斗七星，冬季大三角，讓我立刻聯想到美麗境界(A Beautiful Mind)裡Nash納許透過在無垠的星空下，握著女朋友的手劃出星座，星空成為愛情的醇酒…
我想太多了，不過這位滑鐵盧先生還蠻值得我好好介紹一下，Wateru是由日本政府全額贊助出來英國唸書的一位相當有趣的學生，人相當友善，比我還小一歲，今年才從LSE 國際法律碩士畢業，日本政府又贊助他牛津商學院的全額獎學金，我最欣賞滑鐵盧先生的地方，就是他的開放心胸與凡事樂觀的個性 …..
走到教堂，剛好就是唱詩開始的時候，最先聽到的就是韓德爾的Joy to the world. 這跟我的英文名字Joy 湊巧相同，我上網把這首歌的歌詞抄下，並且許下小小的心願，Hope Joy to the world. Let every heart prepare him room, no more let sins and sorrows grow. Joy to the world forever….
